And Elmah thinks he has an uptight school…

That's not to say that I don't find that link hilarious. I really get a kick out of their scale of punishment placing "spending the night with a person of the opposite sex" and "possession or consumption of alchohol" as more severe than racial/sexual harrassment, threat to do bodily harm and vandalism.

Everyone is biased in what they do or say. Didn't TRY to phrase it that way. Sorry if I did. o.O I was trying to point out facts I've noticed. Someone that doesn't practice what they preach is a hypocrite, right? Someone that practices what they preach against is also a hypocrite. Blanket, fine, ok… Would you like it if I qualified christians to being the diehard stubborn christians? I'll admit there are christians that have enough brains to take all their religious texts and lore that have been translated, retranslated, editted and filtered through goverments and languages with a grain of salt. However, those "diehard" christians probably wouldn't consider you much of a christian, anyways. *shrugs* Anyways, I find the link disturbing as well as hilarious. :\ Poor saps that actually go there... we must pity them. *TWITCH*

The Catholic church adopted Sahmain as their day to observe the day of dead. This was not enough, though, to draw in people, so they made the next day All Saints Day, to add a bit more to their showiness.

~~@Syn:~~ > this place is called "Liberty University" ? ;) Wow, that one went right over my head. Nice point, Syn. (laughs like hell at the stupid school)

Slight point of clarification. Christmas, Easter, All Hallows Eve(Halloween) all (in pure form) are not taken from pagan celebrations. The dates of them were chosen to coincide with pagan celebrations and in some cases resemble the pagan ceremonies to protect those that celebrated them from being persecuted for their beliefs. Having said that they have been commercialized and paganized over the centuries. Some of the most grievous cases being by the church itself. But the celebrations themselves are not pagan.

Get a hold of a Bishop's book or higher and say that. ;) Their rituals from every day things to specific holy days mimic that of pagan communities.

Personally as a member of the Old Church of England I have no problems being a christian and enjoying Easter, Christmas and Halloween. Yes, they at one time were a cover up for the pagan pratices and set up to spice up christianity, but it's been like over 500 years and now it's all part of the system. I think all religions have good points and bad ones since they are creatures of their people and the times. What was truth centuries ago is treated totally different now. Does that discounts the belief? No, not if you keep true to the base truths. Seek not to harm others, do good in the world and know your only human and can't be perfect. After that the rest is just food coloring. As long as your a good caring person who stands up for the rights of others it does not matter what you believe. It's all right.

Wow, another ANglican. *high fives Jaz*

~~@RedRaven:~~ > Wow, another ANglican. *high fives Jaz* Hey! I didn't know anyone would understand it if I used Anglican Ep. Cool! my only choice here is go to Canada or back to Omaha to find a high church. It's a bummer I miss the day of the dead thing. It was sooo much fun and love the frankensence. Don't like the American church here it's such a downer and Anglicans are such great party crew. Pass over the wine.

Bah, Atheism and Agnosticism all the way!

So many nonchristians, particularly atheists, are practically militant in their opposition the "repressive regime of christianity". If it's not blatant hypocrisy to cram atheism down a christians throat, it's at least ironic. Personally, I cast my vote for tolerance. Can't we all just get along? :D

  • registered

if you wish to see how tolerant christians are, i would point you to the liberty christian schools student policy handbook online. http://www.liberty.edu/StudentAffairs/index.cfm?PID=1378 there is your thoughtful, and well rounded, tolerance. i prefer my philosophies and practices over christianity or aethists any day. :) Soth

WOW! A christian that actually wants tolerance instead of KILL KILL KILL ALL HEATHENS! YAY!!! Now that's one down… millions more to go.

Heh, I wasn't saying anything about my beliefs being correct or that others should prescribe to the same set of beliefs… not at all. If everyone thought the same things, the world would be boring. Although I'm somewhere inbetween Athiest and Agnostic, I think I lean a little more toward Atheist, and I consider myself one of the most tolerant people around. I really don't give a damn about religion, just as long as others' religious beliefs don't affect me in any way (ie "kill the unbelievers!").

just bc i am tired.. if you are referring to my post, that was complete sarcasm. personally, i think churches are used to usurp ppl's right to think. again, see the webpage i pasted as an example. its like george carlin said in a skit. "Do you believe in god?" "Yes" "Do you believe in *my* god?" "No" POW, DEAD!!!! My god has a bigger dick than your god. he also said the following stark truth. "we could just outlaw religion, and these problems woulc go away in a decade or 2..but we dont have time for rational solutions."

  • registered

and yes. i realize its what dari put up. i reiterated for effect. :)

Personally, I don't care what people believe. It is universities like that that I feel I need to jab at them with a nuke. "You're too fucking stupid to live your own life, so here is how you have to live it, or else."

Actually, I was referring more to Inimical's post.
