We've discussed this and I think we should do a little something to get it going. The message board is our best long term way to interact with the players and give them an arena to voice their concerns, but the activity level on that thing is precisely dick as you all know. I recommend that we schedule an open discussion to be held in game designed to engage the playerbase and encourage their involvement in the game's future. Doing this works for us in a couple of ways. Player involvement from an early stage will help us mitigate whatever player concerns there certainly will be. Holding an open forum discussion will generate more interest and enthusiasm than a simple post or poll on the message board. Opening the floor to the entire playerbase rather than selecting a few chosen representatives also serves to bring more people in. The more people that contribute, the better.
We can decide how to best handle the logistics between now and the actual event. The date is of course negotiable, but for now I suggest it be held Saturday, December 30. That date should have minimal scheduling conflicts for most people. It's unlikely anyone will have classes to worry about and most of the holiday stuff will be over by then. Sometime in the afternoon would probably be best to allow those who want to get the New Year started a little early to do so. Discuss.

I'm not sure why this topic has recieved zero attention since it has come up in almost all of our design meetings. Luckily, I'm far too stubborn to let that stop me. Let me rephrase my last post a bit. I have unilaterally decided that we will have a open forum discussion on Saturday, December 30th to promote player involvement in the game's future. I will post a news article announcing this later today. Lukus mentioned having a cache of player email addresses from the old message board, I would like to have access to that although I realize he's probably having trouble getting out of bed lately. Depending on the player response in the days leading up to the event I may or may not have to devise a way to deal with an overwhelming number of people talking simultaneously, let's hope I do. The discussion will be separated into two distinct segments. Half of it will be devoted to taking requests (the players tell us what they want) and during the other half I'll announce some of the ideas and topics we've all been considering these last few months and answer questions about them.

Note to self to talk about this when Kit and I have net access. Stealing wireless at a pizza place. Ask Kevin for further info.

I agree with this idea, and I'll definitely be there. Having the players tell US what they would like to see implemented is a great way of keeping interest in the game going.
