A way for players to be involved in the history of the world, be it recent or influencing the distant past, could be through the ancestry of their character(s). Did they have powerful figures of long ago that they are trying to live upto? For the races of the undead, who were they before they changed? Were they part of any family of significance? Are any players "supposedly" descendant from any significant part of the history?
I suggest that players submit histories, either of themselves (especially if they are undead: vampires, liches, etc) or any ancestor(s) of their choosing. If any of them are worth using, some could be incorporated into the very fabric of the timeline. Of course, I think the preliminary voting of any given story should be done by the players to ensure that the immortals aren't blamed for outright favoritism to pick out the good stories. Then we would make the final choices based upon what players have selected. There could even be a monthly story submission of these, as people might not compose stories at the same rate. Could be a story contest.
What do you guys think?
