Time would be better spent balancing the current races and making them more unique unto themselves, rather than adding yet another race. Actually time would be better spent in a whole lot of ways, I could probably write a manifesto dedicated to the potential tweaks that could be made to the game as it exists now that would be much more beneficial to everyone in the long run.

Specially made weapons for them to hold in their talons, a penality for using normal. Resistant to poison, plague and blunt, vulnerable to fire. Average to high hp, average mana, high stamina.
I always thought of griffons haveing High… extreamly hight intelligance.... they in my minds eye are almost as pure as angels... to me.. i dontk now... but it seems like a good idea thought...

A griffon could be interesting, but you seem to give them way too much: everything except Dex is average-to-high. I'll grant that having the fire vulnerability is relatively bad, but other than those two… Other than some balancing, the weapon deal sounds interesting, and it could prove a cool race.. maybe give them some sort of swoop ability that lets you attack a few times before the fight begins.. like you hit and fly away before they can see you, but they'll have a chance to catch you each time (note: would be hard to get to work against players, but rather easy against mobs.. maybe for against players make the griffin completely invisible for a few seconds afterward, but enough that they're visible before they can swoop again, so if the player is looking, they will see the person a few seconds before they can be swooped another time). Sorry that is a tad long-winded and possibly a little incoherent.. but it's late and I should be getting to sleep, and I wrote all this as it came to me.. so it's sort of just strung together. If you need further clarification on what I mean, just say the word.

Same thing I told Xevira before I went off to hibernate.. Expanding on his Gargoyle idea.
Possible remorts for that could be Grotesque or Chimera. Grotesques, in reality, are almost the same as Gargoyles. Only difference is that they serve no purpose besides being decorations. Chimera, besides the mythical critters, are another name for Grotesques.
Or the Garg could remort into the Greek type Chimera, but that is a LOT of limbs/heads. And a snake for a tail. And the whole fire-breathing thing. Yikes.
Don't mind me, just rambling. I think the balancing of the current races is a better idea, though. o_O

As much as I'd enjoy seeing a huge versatility of races, I have to agree that I'd rather see the current races properly balanced first.
-
Well, the moment the coders try to "balance" the races, someone will bitch and moan about them being UNbalanced still. I would rather see every race have their aspects properly defined and implemented… according to the specifications of that race and the limits made by the SERVER, not any other race. Take vampires, for example. Sure vampires are allergic to the sun and have several other weaknesses; but, unless their definition changes (either external to the mud or the mud's definition of a vampire), that is EXACTLY how they should be. Don't like how a race is either suggest ways to fix it, not caring how it relates to any other race, live with the race, or don't play that race. Any complaints about a race without subsequent suggestions for corrections should be ignored by implementors, even if there are a multitude of complaints. Don't like that a race has too many possible attacks? Why not suggest that there be a limit to the number of possible attacks anybody can make per round, regardless of what skills you may have that could potentially add to that number drastically.
I'm pretty sure every race, if played right, can do relatively well, just in their own way. If every race were the same, it would be a matter of randomly choosing a race at creation without any need to consider what that race might be or can/cannot do.
Yes, all current races should be balanced, but to a measure the server provides, not by comparing them to each other. That does not mean that new ideas for races can't be conceived. Hell, if it's not too much trouble, release another race trio (Good, Evil and Neutral) in the future. Variety is good, but so is balance. :) But don't confuse balancing with making a race the same as another race. However, if there ought to be a race to "balance" against, the human race with its lack of any advantages and disadvantages as a clean slate. But that's if you really wanted to use a race as a balancing reference.
An idea for balancing a race is to create a balancing scheme similar to that used for objects. Put values on everything with the goal that the total value should be within a certain range of zero.
Anyways, that is all... gotta go to class.

Did you even read my post before you went on your strangely concieved diatribe?

The only reason talking about another neutral races is because there are only 3 to the 4 with good and evil.
Looking over the list we have:
2 reptililian races - dracon, sith
3 human type - human, slayer, dwarf
2 elven - elf, drow
2 undead - vamp, lich
2 legendary - titan, Min
Missing is:
Bird
Rodent
Feline
Natural
Werecreature
Created
So there is a possible list see what all you guys can come up with here.

Bird - Griffin
Rodent - who wants to play a stinking rat?
Feline - Liger
Natural - exactly what do you mean here?
Werecreature - I say WereBear.. werewolf is overdone, frankly. Never really heard much of any "werecreatures" other than those 2.
Created - the mechanic\organic lifeform I suggested
If you're going to have some of that stuff, why not have Insectoid as well? Or perhaps .. crustacean!@! Who wants to be a crazy lobster monster?!
-
You get bird and feline with griffon.
-
What about something aquatic or amphibious? An area that is mostly underwater would be perfect for such a race, and give more reason to have the underwater breathing spell used more (and give that quest item some real purpose?) Perhaps give them no sea lag when they are in the ocean, since, it's their NATURAL habitat. To counter that, make movement on land highly exhaustive unless they are flying.

COOL!
"All you air-breathers with your soft skins and small minds…"
heh....
-
I don't think so jazelle.
This is the way I see t, take it or leave it I really care not.
I like the gryphon idea for bird.
I could see a rodent race but don't really care as much as it would probably be aligned more towards evil and we're looking for neutral.
Out of those types, you ccould have a natural race, such as a treant or a dryad, which would have bonuses that could be hammered out later, and it would stay within the conceivable parameters of neutral. Also you could have as created a golem/doppelganger type race, created by the ancient druids of old to maintain the balance of good and evil in the world. I disagree with werebear as jazelle pointed out, it is a very common lycan. If you want to have a lycan make someone a werepanther or for somthing even more exotic, a were rhino?
Just some ideas for you people to flame.
-
The most unnatural and most evil of all races… The were-lawyer.
-
With natural steal, hunt, shift(yness), deception, haggle, pass door, bash, bar, …... you crazy?
-
Immune to litigation, haggle, natural AC with paper work used for court cases.
-
If you want some lycan type races, Lukus is the man to talk to. He knows all sorts of them. From your werewolves to your werecats to your werebears, and then to your Were-crocs, weresharks, and were-virgins. Okay I lied about were-virgins.
-
Maybe Jaz remembers this, I'm pretty sure she was there too. I remember testing a feline race on the test port quite some time ago, although I don't really remember what their racial abilities were. Some sort of claw attack….*shrug* I forget. So there's probably a rogue bit of feline code lurking somewhere, waiting to appease the race hungry folk
-
Felines can be fun ,an yeah I agree with Elmah. Lukus is the man to talk to about were things ….
-Thwaps at Elmah- Of course he knows where the were-virgin's are he's just keeping them a secret ..Okay thats my two penny uttered I think I'ma gonna hide behind that rock !
