I'm still here… sorta. Sorry I've been inactive for such a long time, so I understand if I get deleted or gimped or whatever needs to happen. Hopefully I'll be getting a bit of free time soon to come back and maybe do some work. eRT

• Ertai's Updates
Assuming I still have a job, I'm going to start by updating what's going on irl that's been keeping me away and when I think it will change. Then I can hopefully come back and relearn everything and dive into whatever needs to be done.

Working 12+ hours a day so I can afford my last 2 semesters of college and also because we've had 3 recent firings out of the 8 people in my group.

Aug 28, we'll have a new hire to take some hours.

Aug 30, we start training a new hire to take some hours.

Sept 15th (ish), new hire starts regular hours.

Hopefully around the 28th, I'll be getting a promotion which means ... less work? Actually, yes. So with any luck, I should be able to start learning around the 28th. I'm going to try to log this weekend to do some stuff too, so if anyone can respond with the IP/port that'd be super!

Goodonya!

• RE: Redraven situation
Hey ya'll. I know I haven't been around much especially as of late, but don't take my absence as apathy towards Sentience. I may not be completely in the loop, but I have been around enough to see what Redraven (and others with similar attitudes) has done to the game. And despite his rare shining effects, he's caused many problems in his day and done his best to drive people that don't revere him. My personal rant being done, I have a few other things I may be able to add to this discussion. Intriguing. I replied to the wrong message so I can't see the original post, but I'm gonna see what I can do and add on if I need to. Redraven has been caught more than 3 times (and punished) for not only multiplaying (at least 2 of those), but botting (once), and passing off/auctioning items to himself (more than 3). Each time, he seemed to wait just long enough for other people to start causing problems so he was out of the limelight. Sirrus was deleted at one point for a large offence and has been in trouble as much as Redraven for other offenses. Alya was caught helping Redraven on at least 2 occasions with passing off items (and punished once) Although these have been isolated incidences ranging over the last 2-3 years (if memory serves). I don't remember who the Z character is, so I can't offer anything else there. Given all of this, my suggestion is a revision of the rules similar to what was already posted. It is vital to punish before changing the rules because if you can fit the crimes to the current rules, the newer mortals will be given a chance to see that we aren't out to get them. Also, I propose rather than deleting his churches, you punish only him by banning him from those churches. This will allow someone to step up if need be. This may not be an issue based on how active these churches are, but if there are other active members, they most likely donated time and energy as well. I think deletion of his alts is a good way to go. Even stripping him of his stats (pneuma, qp, items, etc) is fair, however, I would save resetting his character to level 1 as a sort of trump card in the case of attitude. Make it very clear to him that it could be worse. With a 120 remort (even bare-stats) there is still respect and the potential to get decent again. As for Sirrus and Alya, I suggest the same punishment for both since they are (were) both very aware of the rules. Finally, I've heard rumors of tokens being implemented. If they are in fact ready, what are the chances that we can add a set of 5 or so tokens to each individual item (this may not be feasible with RAM and whatever else) that record IP's and character names or something similar. This could cause problems with people on the same IP that are playing fair, but maybe there are ways around that? Goodonya! eRT!!!@

• RE: PMOUNT Info
First off, whomever did your mount had a few issues. Level 105 is the max I've let people have on a pmount ever (if someone has this I will gladly compensate for any previous extra levels you have bought). If you have an extra spell or would like to change one of the current ones for fire barrier, either note me or pm me and I'll try to fix that up as soon as possible. And I was unaware that people were getting special damage types, but I will set up a list of prices for that since it has been offered and requested. So look for that in the next few days *crosses fingers he gets to his computer again before then* As far as crusader vs paladin, the skill mount and weapon style shouldn't be making the mount assist you. It should give you the ability to hit something while riding. Therefore, hypothetically lets say you're neither a crusader nor a paladin. If mounted, you'll get the extra damage boost, but you will only have a 60% chance to hit. As a paladin, you'll have the damage boost AND a 90% chance to hit. As a crusader (a specialized paladin), you would have the damage boost, the 90% chance to hit, and have the mount assist you. This means that if you want your mount to assist you, you should go/have gone crusader. Trample (the crusaders other mount-involved ability) doesn't seem to be even as good as circle in most scenerios. If paladins were able to get mounts to attack with them, crusaders would have next to no usefullness simply because their only selling point would be holy sword and holy shield (both of which I'm sure you have 50 scrolls of each). eRT

• RE: No more than one alt on
I'm not sure what spurred this, however, I'd like to point out a few simple things. Anyone can make inferences about where someone is. If, for example I'd like to pk someone, and I see them in the pyramid for any length of time, I can assume they are in PoA and camp for them. Likewise, being that mystica is the only dungeon we have, I can assume that there's a good possibility it's being camped if I'm trying to get back from PoA. On a second note, Well put Llauf. It is too bad that people had to abuse this to make it an issue. However, if no one knows about it, it's really very difficult to dissuade people. If you have a problem with this, either come to any immortal online and they can help deal with the situation, note me along with a system time (type time) and I will look for any foul play, or e-mail me with a log of what happened (also include a timestamp please) and we can help. I don't really see who has been deleted unjustly and who has not been punished at all, but if anyone would like to clue me in, you all know how to get ahold of me. This is just a small reminder though. If you ask someone why they were deleted, 9/10 times they will say something like "because the imms hate me" or at least try to downplay their part in the need for discipline. We currently have a pretty good system with 3 IMPS at the top. If you have a problem with an immortal ruling, let us know. If you have a problem with any of the IMPs, let another one know. If you have a problem with all the IMPS and the imms, you may just want to stop and wonder what you did wrong :-p eRT

• Alendith
Once we get the new set of flags put in (I believe a charlock flag is on that list) I will be making all newbie eq charlocked. In case you don't know what it does, it flags an item so that it can only be picked up/used by the person who originally picked it up. This allows the person to drop it and other things similar to that, but it would prevent auctioning it, leaving it for other mortals, etc. charlocked items would not restrict imms in any way because sometimes we need to deal with stuff involving picking up items.
The reason for this is because I'm sick of seeing "newbies" with -200 ac because they got a 120 to enchant some level 2 gear. Also, I don't think that diamond collection should be the way through alendith either.

So, if there are any other items that should definately be charlocked (things that should be very difficult to get but have managed to flood the mud or that serve as a reward but can be easily abused) please feel free to list them here as we can discuss reasons, etc.

Just as a quick side-note. Scarm's quest (currently) was one of the few inter-area quests I believe (plith to reza) and so whatever you choose to do with it, remember how people will react to not being able to get at scarm's coffin/fang/medallion. I vote for a relocation myself. Might allow a little more intricacy to the quest. eRT

• RE: Urgent to be Implemented
Things we need… 1) Tokens. lots and lots of tokens. I'd love to see more quests that people can only do once or twice (daktos for one) so we don't have a flood of good eq in the game for anyone who can befriend a higher level. 2) If-checks and triggers for progs. I've seen some of the list Nibels has, and it's awesome. I had a few of my own, but I believe that they were on his list as well. 3) True multiclassing. I have always wondered how people managed to become truely specialized with 4 distinctly different classes. I'd like to see big bonuses for anyone who chooses all magic or all melee. I'd like to see even bigger bonuses for someone who chooses all cleric or all warrior, etc. Don't wanna mess the balance up anymore than it already is, but it'd be cool to have. 4) Good spells. I'm really tired of being able to count the number of spells people use in combat on one hand. Fireball, dispel magic, web, blind... did I miss any? I'd like to see (going along with the multiclassing thing) a 4 mage-class character be able to cast highly destructive spells that will make a warrior consider healing during their attack round. I'd like to have clerics be able to cast spells that would prevent things like backstab/circle (maybe if they chose an illusionary class they could confuse the enemy by making more than one of themselves thereby cutting the chance of being hit in half, etc) 5) More effective stats. In light of the fact that we're changing the stat caps to racial maxes to keep all 120 remorts from having the exact same stats, I'd like to see people with less dex get hit noticably more. People with low int fail at spell casting. People with low con be denied service at certain shops, etc. I'm sure there is a difference currently, but it may be too small. I really like the ideas I've seen so far. keep it up folks! :) eRT

• Gas Prices
Hey Folks. Sorry I haven't been on the message board as much as I should, but I'm still around. Just got this chain letter in an e-mail, and rather than piss everyone off by sending to all addresses I have in my e-mail, I'm gonna post it here so you can choose to read it or not. However, it's not one of those dumbass ones that tell you yer hair is gonna fall out or gremlins will come in your sleep and give you herpes or anything else outrageous. It's more of a public awareness e-mail that seems like it would be very effective if everyone would take the time to do a little research.
Anyways, here it is.

"Subject: Gas war

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action.

Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.09 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50- $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace....not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.

The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK. Kerry Lyle, Director, Research Coordinator

Interventional Cardiology Research Laboratories Division of Cardiovascular Diseases

932 Ziegler Research Bldg

703 South 19th Street University of Alabama @ B'ham"

I cut out some crap he had in there about reaching 3 million people in 8 days. Basically just want to broadcast the message because this really does make sense. Feel free to copy/e-mail this to anyone or refer anyone here.

• RE: Silky Sack of Sentience
Interesting idea, Xev, however, it seems to me that if we calculated weight through a total, things like souling would become easy. How many souls can you carry back in 1 load? I would say 300-500 depending on how much of a packrat you are. Now imagine that with a slew of containers that have a 10% multiplier. lets say they fit 100, so discounting eq (100 pounds for simplicity) if you can carry 500 lbs, that's 400/10 = 40 containers filled with 100 souls each. 4000 in 1 run would make church upgrades a snap, along with multi'ing. Now imagine if we change the weight of bottles as well… lets say you can carry 5 per lb. 20k souls if you packed light. I know this is an exageration, but it's definately something to be considered. eRT
