Hi to you, too! I'm doing well enough and hope the same of you. :) I'm sure that since this reply is rather late you've gotten your answer, but no, I don't believe the game is running at all.

I'm not sure what made me think of this out of nowhere, or cause me to actually remember my password, but I wanted to pop in and wish everyone a happy new year. Hope all is well with you all!

I'd ask "how was Christmas?" but I'm not sure you'd particularly remember, 4 months down the road.. I actually don't keep up with many of the old folk, unfortunately! I've lost track of almost everyone now. I have a few game friends on Facebook or MSN, but even there I'm bad about keeping up. I don't think that's particularly surprising, given how long it took me to post here. :D

Wow! Last time I remember you playing I think you were working on the first and being mostly confined to bed. :P How old are they now? Haha, my only gaming is pretty much restricted to Facebook and iPod apps. I don't think the game is running right now but I dunno what's going on.. Things are pretty good here, just working and saving whatever money I can muster. I'm behind in my Christmas shopping and have to go back to work on Monday and I'm a little panicked, but it's okay.. Any big Christmas plans for you?

Hey Star! :) How's it going these days? You were a crazy busy lady when you played, so I can't even imagine what that means for being "busy" now.. :P Yeah, I never really was much of a gamer so this was pretty much it for me as well. I just fiddle around with facebook and ipod games and that's the extent of my entertainment!

Lub lub lub. Hope everyone's doing well these days, wherever they are and whatever they're doing!

On a random note I'm sad because I had new messages but hadn't been on in forever and a half so the board apparently emptied my inbox. :(

    • RE: 4th neutral race
I'm going to start off by stating my bias: I don't really like the idea at all. That being said, there are a number of reasons I'm not sure this could ever work. Please keep in mind these are my opinions only, so they mean absolutely nothing when all is said and done, so don't bother wasting your breath arguing with me - it really won't get anyone anywhere. Let's pretend we have an animated giant rock monster. Rationally, this rock monster would be massively strong, but assigning it a dexterity value? I'd give it one, maybe two points at the max. Can you see the flaws coming already? Because it's so massive and heavy, speed is totally lacking, and there is no way this thing could get more than one attack in per round. Skills like archery, even wielding most weapons, etc are basically lost on it. Mounts? Never. They'd squish the poor things. I can't imagine rock monsters being very intelligent, and I can't imagine them being able to pull off a spell with any speed or intensity. Acrobatics? Dodge? Any and basically all thief skills? Yeah, not a chance. It's a race where the stats would be so skewed in either direction and the skills and spells available to it would be so limited that it would be a nightmare to balance and a horror to play. I can't see this ever being applied as a playable race with any success, especially when we're working on __balancing__ the game, not throwing it into further chaos. Another reason I don't like the idea is that it just doesn't __fit__ within the game as I know it. When I think of Sentience, I think more of a medieval/high fantasy type world, with elves and dragons and all that jazz. Sure, there are exceptions, but there seems to be a clear enough theme. The playable races are largely humanoid or human-based. I honestly, in my mind of minds, can't picture a giant stone creature coming by in Olaria with a "hey man, what's up?". I can't even wrap my mind around it. I'm also a little biased in that I hate ideas ripped from other sources (aside from the typical fantasy clichés of things like elves, drow, etc), especially other games. If you find something in a game that you like, the best idea is to consider the concepts behind it and why it is such a success, then apply that in a new and interesting way to create something original rather than to just rip it out and create a carbon copy. On the other hand, I could see a stone beast being a completely valid idea for an NPC. For example, maybe there's a kingdom with a wicked sorcerer bringing life to inanimate objects to do its bidding. Animated rocks, trees, etc, who knows. It could be an interesting application for an NPC in this manner. It's not a bad idea in general, just has the potential for a horrible application of a playable race. However, as Xevira stated, a similar stone defense style construct could be applied in a creation of something like a gargoyle, where there would be no innate superpower advantages and a clear disadvantage. Obviously a race like this would also take some work, but it's a more likely option and fits more closely with the theme of the game, in my opinion.

Way back when, Syn posted a list of skills and spells attained by each class: http://sentience.sanc-roleplay.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=157&start=0 It doesn't include all of the info from the help files, but at least it's got the skills? :3

    • RE: Bards
Okay, I'm not giving any real input, because I don't play a bard, and everything I have to say has basically been said before. However, there is one thing I would like to address regarding previous posts. When you're talking about the balance between subclasses, Remort subclasses should have absolutely nothing to do with it. That is a matter of balance between remort subclasses, and a completely different issue. Please, do not use remort subclass options as a method of balancing mortal subclasses. If you wish to discuss the balance between remort subclasses, that is, of course, a valid issue, but it should not be directly related to your mortal subclass comparisons. Mortal subclasses should be balanced on their own, and remort subclasses, likewise.

    • RE: What do you look for in a MUD?
I can't bring myself to actually choose one answer for the poll, so instead you get a detailed answer! Hooray! *PK combat: Obviously, I'm not into this one. Definitely not my style, thus why I like how the PK system is here. I love that I'm never really forced into a PK situation, with the slight exception of running to POA (which I never do anymore anyway ;)). If I was actually forced to PK in a MUD, I'd be gone quickly. *Roleplay: I like a MUD where roleplay is encouraged, but never really forced. Here, for example, we basically take on our own characters and inadvertantly play them out. IE: Riane the passive little social pack rat of a draconian, Lukus the crafty little snake boy, Sirrus the crazy little kitten fiend, Nibelung the even bigger pack rat of an immortal, etc. :D We're never forced to roleplay formally, which I like, but at the same time we keep all (most) of our OOC stuff on the one channel. I'd like to see a little bit more roleplay than we have here, now, though. By this, I'm referring to the fact that our races and classes mean virtually nothing except what skills we gain as we level. :P *Meeting/Talking to people: Haha, do I even really need to answer this? I -need- to be able to talk to people. I like a MUD where people are generally friendly and social, and I can just relax and talk when I want. In this way, I don't like a MUD with a huge player base - people seem to get more clique-y, and interact as a whole a lot less frequently. I like a MUD large enough that there are generally always at least a handful of people active, but small enough that it's like a big family, albeit an extremely dysfunctional one. *Questing and solving puzzles: I do really enjoy MUDs that encourage this, without forcing it too much. I wish we could have more frequent Global Quests; however, I'm aware of the time this takes to assemble. Our questing system is kind of uninteresting at the moment, but it really does beat flat-out leveling. Puzzles are always good, but I'm generally braindead and can't figure them out. :D (Aside from that stupid block game, mrrrph.) *Literary or artistic stimulation/merit: So fancy, really! But yay literary and artistic stimulation/merit! (You know you always wanted to say that, too) As for that, I want a MUD that is rich enough in its descriptions that I can imagine what the immortal had in mind when it was being created, or I can at least be assured that they did have something in mind. :P I'm all artsy too, so I like to be inspired every now and then by the characters and descriptions. Good writing = major plus. *Working on the game as an immortal: Hello! I am a mortal, and do not function as an immortal anywhere. :D *Gathering wealth in money and items: Ahaha, yes! I love to be able to be a packrat. Carrying tons of items, however unrealistic it may be, is something I find very entertaining. How many roses do I have now? <3 Plus, when I manage to collect wealth, it makes me feel better about how poor I am at doing so offline. ;) *None of the above: Yes, that's it exactly! None of the above! (Blatant lie). Anyway. There, I've officially redeemed my indecisive ways. :)

    • RE: Sith power down
So, as a completely non-Sith player, and a person who generally remains neutral in these conversations, I'm going to throw in my own critical opinions to these proposed changes. (Ooh, I sound so fancy and formal :D) > Granted they are tougher than some races, but still aren't that difficult to take on if fighting them correctly. So, um.. If they're not difficult to beat, why would we weaken them? Just curious. > Sleep toxin. Like black Jack, except you don't have to be in sneak or, if need be, they have to be in sneak. You can't use the bite durring battle however. It will take about 4 rounds to take affect if successful. Okay, so.. You want to make an extremely weak and virtually useless version of blackjack? That makes things slightly redundant. I certainly do not understand the purpose of this skill, considering that any Sith would have blackjack; both assassin and rogue, the two subclasses from which Sith have the ability to choose, have the blackjack skill. Why would someone ever use this? > Calm won't counter it, but if in frenzy or beserk, the idea of being enraged will slow its affects down to say 6 turns or so. Calm will actually speed it up to about 3\. If both are in affect, the speed change cancels the time change of the affects. Just as a note.. Wouldn't frenzy logically speed it up? Being in a state of frenzy would cause a greater rate of blood flow and the toxin would reach the body more quickly, would it not? I actually just checked some first aid sites because I was really unsure, and it does say "Keep the person calm, reassuring them that bites can be effectively treated in an emergency room. Restrict movement, and keep the affected area below heart level to reduce the flow of venom.". It's good to know I learned something in Biology, ahaha. I'm not sure about this encoil idea.. The idea of having a skill that would restrict movement, inflict damage, and keep the target from fleeing seems a little too powerful to me. It seems like it would be worse than the sleep bite itself! Although I may not be in favour of these proposed changes, I do indeed support a cure for sith toxins. However, they are meant to be dangerous, and don't take effect right on impact. Thus, I don't believe a simple cure poison should negate all affects of the toxin immediately. Possibly with increased failure rate due to the strength of the toxin, or something to that effect, it would make sense. Perhaps I'm underestimating the Sith race. I'm aware that they have these toxin abilities, and yes, they need some sort of antidote, which the immortals are most likely aware of and working on, considering the amount of complaints on the matter. But these changes are too drastic, in my opinion, and will only make Sith into a race with weak skills and horrible vulnerabilities. Like Emtae said, they can be beaten if the opponent knows what they're doing. It's really like any other race; each have their strengths and vulnerabilities. It's all dependent upon the people playing and their approach to the battle. Many other races can be quite lethal if played skillfully, such as Titans and Draconians. So basically, I think that if a cure for toxins is implemented, and I anticipate it will be, then there really will be no need to change the Sith's abilities for the worse. Tah dah, done now.

*Coughs* What do you want a dracon-killing weapon for, mister? :P Seriously though, cold damage weapons mostly fall between the upper third class to lower/mid fourth class range, I believe. There's not a lot above or below that range, but there seems to be an unusual amount within that small span of levels.

      > -how about a healing spell much like the bard heal that heals all in a form. We actually have this already, pretty much: Mass healing. Expensive bugger of a spell (I just cast it randomly and it took 300 mana), but it heals everyone in the room with hp and mv both. It could probably be played with a little, rather than a whole new spell be added. I'm not sure who all gets it, mind you; I never checked to see if other subclasses than monk did. > -how about some good cold spells. Oh god, yes. As a dracon with a cold vuln, I have to say.. Chill touch is a joke; we're really lacking on cold spells. We have a lot of frosty weapons, but that's about all I have to fear. :P > -How about fixing some of the skills and spells to make things more interesting. How about being a little less vague! I think you're going to have to explain that one a bit, Rothy.

    • RE: Vampire Remort name.
Personally, I like Fiend as is. I see no problem with it, and Myth is right; many other races, such as Elves, Titans, Dragons and the like, could be considered Ancients. That would just broaden the name and, personally, I believe it would make it worse off. As well, as it stands now, when a vampire remorts, he/she essentially becomes pure evil. Changing the name to Elder or Ancient definitely seems to remove the portrayal of that aspect from the character. I would just keep Fiend as it is; there seems to be no need to change it.
