ok, I LOVE the idea of making specific armors moldable to specific races, but wouldn't that be a LOT to keep track of? That would completely limit the use of some weapons/armors to certain races. This is the intent of the idea (I understand this much) but shouldn't we have a few more zones that we can chose from? This way we wouldn't have any problems fitting a complete set of eq to any race and any level (within 10-20 levels) Keep talkin! eRT

Adding select race exclusive items would be a good idea. Reworking all existing armor to be race exclusive is an abysmal idea. It would change the game in a fundamental way and has a grave potential to throw a wrench in the cogs of racial balance, well what racial balance exists anyway.

I agree. If we are going to do this… it's going to be in a while. We already have balancing issues all over, and this is a huge undertaking to be dealing with along with everything else... I think it needs to wait.

I don't agree with race specific items. One race with get +'s in something, another will get a spell on an item and then there will be complaints all over the place. I honestly don't think it is worth the hassle to keep every single piece of equipment in balance with each other for races. And the only way to do this is to make the exact same item for each race, then we are stuck with a ton of the same equipment anyway.

Here's an idea for a new neutral race… One-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eater! X)

Okay now a serious idea on this: Djinn, or Jinn, whichever you like, though personally I think djinn looks cooler. As for a remort race, I dunno. Here's a description of them from http://webhome.idirect.com/~donlong/monsters/monsters.htm The jinn, or djinn are beings from Arabic lore. Being from before the creation of man, it is said that Allah created these beings from black, smokeless fire. They have transparent bodies that are made up of flame or vapour, and are able to assume different forms such as humans and animals. There are both jinns of a good nature which are generally handsome, and those that are evil and are hideous. Jinns can be very large and have the ability to become invisible. For the most part, jinns are good towards man. However, because they like to play tricks, their behaviour can be unpredictable, and one can never know if their behaviour is good or bad. Jinns are able to attain the lower heavens and can overhear an angel's prophecy. They therefore have great magical power over humanity. They are able to put us to sleep, transport us instantly to distant lands, and show us miracles, then return us to our beds. They can make us fall in love with them, making us marry them. the children of such unions can pass through wall, fly and age very slowly. Jinns love to throw stones at passersby from rooftops abduct beautiful women, and steal food. Invoking Allah's name is usually enough to prevent such trouble. Much like færies and brownies, a jinn will act towards a human in the same manner in which a human acted towards it. If you are good to a jinn, it will be good to you, if bad however, beware. I think this would be good for a neutral race, or perhaps this could be the remort race of something.

~~@Xevira:~~ > I've always liked the Gargoyle race idea, as far as a remort for it, I dunno. Gargoyle sounds cool, instead of making them turn to stone during the day you could give them sea lag and the loss of 1 or 2 attacks per round. But at night compensate them with an extra attack and a 10% bonus on exp

~~@Xevira:~~ > An idea for balancing a race is to create a balancing scheme similar to that used for objects. Put values on everything with the goal that the total value should be within a certain range of zero. If a race is resistant to something give it a vulnrabiltiy to its oppisite. resistant to evil = sus to holy restisant to fire/heat = sus to cold/frost so on and so fourth

If it hasn't been suggested yet (I can't be assed to look through the whole thread and see), what about trolls?

  • Halflings. Halflings. oh and Halflings.

I remember the feline race idea and thought it was pretty cool. I believe they were first called Liger, then Myan. Here are a couple of other ideas that I had… Mutant - since mutations happen naturally Ape/Simian - part human, part gorilla/chimp/baboon/etc Magical - magic based race like pixie or something
